COVID-19 and the Eye

Hello All!

The South Eastern Eye Center has been on a small hiatus and now that we have returned to our blog scene, we wanted to give you some quick information on COVID-19 and how it relates to your eye health.  Everywhere you turn there is information on COVID-19 and how it effects the body.  Elevated temperature, cold or flu-like symptoms, breathing issues, and or fatigue, but did you know that it can also affect the eye?  Viruses have a high affinity, or like, the wet moist environment of the eye surface and can cause serious infections.  These infections aka "Pink Eye", aka Conjunctivitis, can cause serious issues with the eyes and clarity of vision.  If you have been around someone infected with COVID-19 and you feel that your eyes are pink/red, tearing, dry, or sore, give your eye doctor a call for further assistance or seek the advice of your medical provider..  Sometimes these symptoms may be the earliest warning signs of viral conditions affecting the body so if you feel like you have come in contact with an infected individual reach out for care!
